i’ve pretty much got my new linux machine running. after a two-day download of the operating system (and half an hour to burn it to cd), multiple install attempts, buying a network hub and a LAN card, reconfiguring the BIOS about fifty times and X windows about a hundred, i finally have a fully network-aware computer, built for around $250. its actually a pretty nice machine, the kind you could buy for around $800 with windows preinstalled.

mine is a little less, um, clean-looking inside though. the screws for the case don’t align with the ones for the drives, so i will probably wind up having ot secure them with duct tape. it will probably work out for the best though: the tape will help dampen any vibrations, and maybe quiet down the fan a little.

also, if there is anyone out there who wants to point me toward a cheap but nice monitor, i wouldn’t mind replacing the little (albeit cute) black and white one wiht something a little nicer. LCD, anyone?
